Shotz is the Warehouse’s own brand laundry powder. It’s available exclusively at the big, red barns and also Warehouse Stationery. Promising great results in cold water, Shotz powder is available in three sizes: 10kg ($25), 5kg ($14) and 800g ($3.50). It’s also available in a 5kg ($14) sensitive version, which features no perfumes or dyes. The 10kg size delivers 120 washes, the 5kg 60 washes and the 800g approx 9-10 washes.
Earthwise scores 4-Stars for Overall Satisfaction and apart from our winner is the only other brand to achieve any 5-Star ratings. Earthwise achieves these top scores for Ease of Use, Packaging and Scent. It earns its lowest rating, 3 Stars, for Effectiveness.
Earthwise’s laundry powder is an ecofriendly choice that promises to be tough on stains but gentle on the environment. Shunning harsh chemicals for natural cleansers, Earthwise’s laundry powders are made in NZ and are grey water and septic tank safe. Available in 1kg (33 washes | $8 approx) and 2kg packs (66 washes | $15 approx), there are five different powders to choose from:
Persil is a global laundry brand, and sits third on our awards table. It achieves predominantly 4-Star ratings from Kiwi consumers, and earns its top ratings for Overall Satisfaction, Effectiveness, Ease of Use and Scent.

Rounding out this year’s laundry powder awards rankings, Surf earns predominantly 3-Star ratings. However, while this is not a top rating, it is by no means a measure of dissatisfaction. Rather it shows Surf customers are happy with the performance of the laundry brand. Surf achieves its highest rating for Value for Money: 4 Stars.
Surf is an international brand that is available in supermarkets across the country. Available in 1kg ($6.50 approx) and 3kg ($17 approx) packs, there are five Surf laundry powders to choose from: Coastal Luxury, Herbal Extracts, Sensitive, Sunshine Citrus, Tropical.

Over a third (35%) of those in our survey said that fragrance played a big part in their choice of laundry powder. However, overall, a powder’s scent plays little part in our consumers’ overall satisfaction levels with their brands. Indeed, just over a quarter of those in our survey (27%) buy sensitive powders, that shun harsh perfumes. How a powder removes grease, grime and dirt is by far the biggest driver of consumer satisfaction, followed by Value for Money.

The outcomes reported are the results. In this case, 1190 New Zealanders. Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.
