As the traditional utility demands of households have changed to include broadband, the retail market has started to focus on hot deals for combined power and internet. So too has Canstar Blues’ expert consumer analysis. This is why we’re proud to announce our inaugural award for Most Satisfied Customers | Bundled Utilities, and the winner: Pulse Energy.
The community-owned Kiwi company, offers electricity, solar, gas and broadband plans, and was the standout performer in our consumer award research. Against stiff opposition, it was the only bundled utility provider in our award to earned a maximum 5 Star Overall Satisfaction rating from its customers.
Pulse’s achievement is due to a clean sweep of 5 Star top marks across all our rated categories of consumer satifaction, including:
- Bill & Cost Clarity
- Customer Service
- Focus on Environmental Sustainability
- Tools & Advice
- Value for Money
Things to Consider When Bundling Utilities
As part of our awards research, we broke down the measure of customer satisfaction into five separate categories. Each of the following is an import factor to consider when choosing the right bundled utility provider for your household:
Value for Money
This is the biggest driver of satisfaction in our awards, cited by 37% of those in our survey. Saving money is, of course, a major reason why you’d sign up to a bundle deal: 40% of those in our research agree their bundles save on their utility bills. An additional 27% also value rewards from their provider. So always look out for any special offers or deals.
Customer Service
Sometimes you get what you pay for. A cheap deal might appear great value on paper. But it may not be so good if you struggle to get help or advice when something goes wrong. Glitches and gremlins are a perennial bugbear when dealing with home tech. And when your internet goes down, you need to be able to rely on a swift resolution. Or, at least, somebody to keep you informed of what’s going on. No wonder that a third of those in our survey say customer service is their biggest concern.
Bill & Cost Clarity
While the billing process doesn’t score as highly as service or cost in our ratings, it’s still a vital consideration. Over half of those surveyed (55%) say they prefer a bundled service because it allows them to streamline their monthly paperwork and keep track of their bills. This is reflected in the 38% of people in our survey who …
Tools & Advice
… track and manage their utility usage through online portals and phone apps. Knowing what you’re spending, when and why gives you the power to take back control of your home’s power usage and utility bills.
Environmental Sustainability
Here in New Zealand, we’re lucky that close to 85% of our power needs come from renewable resources. It’s something most of us take for granted – only 3% of those in our survey think it’s an important consideration. But a focus on environmental sustainability should be something you factor into your choice of utility provider. Choosing a power provider that encourages new and innovative ways for you to save power is not only good for the planet, it’s good for your pocket, too.
