Most Satisfied Customers | Miele

Miele secured our Most Satisfied Customers award – Ovens for this year, having topped the scores in five of the seven rated criteria – an impressive feat. Miele emerged from a strong field which included ten other brands.

Miele heats up the competition in our inaugural Oven Awards

An oven is one of the few appliances that are fundamentally necessary to keeping us fed. Countless family meals are cooked in an oven every day, and as such are a significant investment for homeowners. According to our recently-conducted research, the average spend on an oven is $981, rising to well over $1k in some states

Furthermore, the average age of Australian’s ovens is twelve years – likely to outlive any of your other appliances!

It’s obvious from this that an oven should be good value for money, easy to use and – among other things – reliable. When we asked people why they replaced their oven, more than a third of our respondents reported their previous model had broken down.

When it came to our ratings for domestic ovens we used just such criteria, as well as others such as service and cooking performance, to rate each brand based on how satisfied everyday Aussies were with their appliance.

Miele secured our Most Satisfied Customers Award for this year, having topped the scores in five of the seven rated criteria – an impressive feat. Miele emerged from a strong field which included six brands with four-star ratings: Samsung, Bosch, Electrolux, Chef, Westinghouse and Whirlpool. Coming in next were three-star awardees Fisher & Paykel, Smeg, Blanco and Euromaid.

Check out how each brand stacked up in the breakdown below.

Value for money

Cost is a very relevant factor in your decision to purchase an oven – it’s a big, expensive purchase, so you need to choose something that’s worth the money. The brand that excelled in this area was Electrolux, which scored five stars for value for money.  Seven other brands scored four stars – Miele, Samsung, Bosch, Chef, Westinghouse, Whirlpool and Fisher & Paykel. The remaining three brands achieved three-star value satisfaction ratings.

Reliability

Reliability is vital for an appliance expected to be used multiple times a week for a decade or more, and was the biggest contributing factor to overall satisfaction in these results. Ovens are exposed to extreme temperatures and constant wear, making a durable construction especially difficult to design. Miele topped the list with a five-star rating in another win for German reliability, and all but two of the remaining brands received four stars for lasting build quality (Blanco and Euromaid each scored three stars).

Even heat distribution

Nobody wants to pull their pie out of the oven to find it scorching hot on top and cool on the bottom. Even heating is a must for an oven to cook food properly, and involves factors such as airflow, capacity and how much food the oven contains. Owners of a Miele oven were most satisfied with their appliance’s heating, which netted the brand another five-star score, whilst Samsung, Bosch and Electrolux received four stars for their heat distribution. The remainder of our rated brands achieved three stars each.

Design and functionality

Function trumps form when you’re just trying to cook a delicious meal, but an oven which incorporates both design and functionality is an achievement worth recognising.

Two brands, Miele and Samsung, were found to be joint winners in the design stakes with five-star ratings. If you’re after an appliance that’s both cool and capable, you’d do well to check these two out. Their competition included four brands with four-star ratings – Bosch, Electrolux, Westinghouse and Whirlpool – with the remainder of rated brands achieving three stars for design satisfaction.

Ease of use

It’s great being able to choose between searing and slow-cooking, but what’s the point if it takes you half an hour to figure out how? When you’re in a rush to get dinner in the oven, nothing’s more convenient than a clear, intuitive interface. Another case of joint winners, our ease of use satisfaction ratings were topped by five-star awardees Miele and Westinghouse; with Samsung, Electrolux, Chef and Whirlpool close behind on four.

Ease of cleaning

Samsung scored its second five-star ratings thanks to the sheer ease of which its ovens can be cleaned. This brand’s satisfaction rating stood out in an area where only Bosch, Electrolux and Miele could muster up four-star ratings, with the seven other brands all securing three stars. This clearly speaks volumes of the difficult and annoying task that is getting baked stains off your oven’s interior.

After-sales service / warranty

This is another area in which the long lifetime of an oven becomes a factor. The warranty on your oven, and the after-sales care provided by your manufacturer, can prove the difference between an easy fix and shelling out hundreds for a brand new appliance. The highest satisfaction for post-sales service was recorded by both Miele and Electrolux, achieving five stars each, whilst Whirlpool and Samsung achieved an also-impressive four stars each.

Frequently asked questions

Canstar Blue commissions Colmar Brunton to regularly survey 3,000 Australian consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group who have an oven installed in their home which they used in the last 3 months – in this case, 1,253 Australians.

Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10. Not all brands available in the market have been compared in this survey. The ratings table is first sorted by star ratings and then alphabetically. A rated brand may receive a ‘N/A’ (Not Applicable) rating if it does not receive the minimum number of responses for that criteria.
