Our lives are made pretty easy thanks to technology. Whether it’s a gizmo to help in the kitchen, or a massive 4K TV that brings cinema to the living room, there’s plenty of tech for Kiwis to love. And there are plenty of brands, makes, models, sizes, features to choose from, too.
And that’s when making a choice becomes a little bit trickier, as indecision looms over every purchase.
But thanks to Canstar Blue, we’ve made choosing an appliance retailer a little easier. While we can’t tell you which electronic brands and products are right for you, we can point you in the direction of an electronics retailer who can. As part of our mission to inform consumers of the best NZ has to offer, Canstar Blue canvassed the opinions of everyday Kiwis, to find out which electronics retailer is the nation’s favourite.
100% Appliances: New Zealand’s favourite electronics retailer
We asked 2394 Kiwis who had purchased a product from an electronics retailer in the past 12 months to evaluate their experiences across the following categories:
- Overall Satisfaction
- Customer Service
- Value for Money
- Range of Products on Offer
- Price Compared to Other Retailers
- Layout of Store
And coming out on top is 100% Appliances, the winner of Canstar Blue’s 2022 award for Most Satisfied Customers | Electronics Retailers.
The 100% locally owned and operated electronics retailer takes out our award for the second year running, maintaining its impressive results across all categories.
100% Appliances is the only provider in our survey to earn top marks for Overall Satisfaction, based on top 5-Star ratings for the two most important categories, as voted for by consumers, in our survey: Customer Service and Value for Money.
100% earns a further 5-Star rating for Layout of Store, and 4 Stars for Range of Products on Offer and Price Compared to Other Retailers.
Also scoring highly, PB Tech, Harvey Norman, Noel Leeming and JB Hi-Fi each earn 4-Star Overall Satisfaction ratings, while The Warehouse earns a 3-Star overall rating.

An overview of the electronics retailers evaluated in this year’s survey:
100% Appliances
Operating across the North and South islands, all 100% Appliances stores are locally owned and operated. This means you get great service from people who are invested in each local store and its community. Not just workers for a big conglomerate.
In fact, several 100% stores feature the names of the families that run them, such as 100% Magnes Benrow and 100% Lim Electronics. It’s no surprise, then, that 100% Appliances scores full marks for Customer Service.
And in addition to local, personalised service, 100% stores benefit from the purchasing power that comes from being a large collective. By passing on the great deals to its customers it scores a 5-Star rating for Value for Money.
100% stores stock a huge range of products, for all parts of the home, from whiteware to mobile phones, from heat pumps and dehumidifiers to 4K OLED TVs. All in an excellent and well laid out shopping environment. 100% is also the exclusive stockist of NZ made beds SleepMaker.
In this year’s survey, 100% Appliances earns excellent 4- and 5-Star results across the board, and is the worthy winner of our award for Most Satisfied Customers | Electronics Retailers.
PB Tech
The PB Tech story began in 1993, when founder Pat opened up a small computer repair business in the Auckland suburb of Panmure. It was during these early years at PB Tech that he first became frustrated with the high prices of the computer components that he needed to carry out his repairs.
To combat these high prices, he called up other local computer businesses and arrange group buys from overseas suppliers.
And that strategy has helped transform PB Tech into one of the country’s biggest electronics retailers. By sourcing bulk deals, often directly from manufacturers, PB Tech can offer a huge range of products at great prices. The electronics retailer scores full marks for Range of Products on Offer and Price Compared to Other Retailers.
PB Tech also has a large range of IT equipment, and boasts in-store IT specialists who can help you with repairs and other tech advice.
PB Tech scores 4 Stars for Overall Satisfaction, Customer Service and Value for Money. It earns a single 3-Star result for Layout of Store.

If you need something for your home, chances are you can find it at Harvey Norman.
In this year’s survey, Harvey Norman earns an excellent 4-Star Overall Satisfaction rating thanks to 4 Stars for Customer Service and Range of Products on Offer, as well as a standout 5-Star rating for Layout of Store. It earns 3 Stars in all other categories measured.
Noel Leeming
Noel Leeming is a part of The Warehouse Group, giving it access to a massive supply network and the ability to stock plenty of products across the electronics space. A leading stop for all your home appliances, TV and audio equipment, gaming, cameras and, of course, computers and mobile phones, Noel Leeming earns a great 4-Star score for Range of products on offer.
