Streaming TV services have taken over. Where once Netflix stood alone, countless more have joined. Apple TV+, Disney+, Neon, Prime Video, and even TVNZ+ have all become strong competitors, fighting for a share of our streaming revenue. And while more competition has secured higher budget shows and better quality viewing, the choice can, at times, be overwhelming. Sometimes it can feel like your most-watched show is, well, your streaming provider’s home screen!
So to help make your viewing life easier, Canstar has joined up with JustWatch, to bring you a regular round-up of the top streaming TV shows and films currently playing in lounge rooms across the country.
Read on to see which movies and shows Kiwis have been watching recently:

Amazon Prime Video is neck-and-neck with Netflix when it comes to capturing Kiwis’ eyeballs. And it’s encouraging to see local player Neon not too far behind Disney+. When it comes to our local TV stations’ attempts to transition into streaming services, Three Now sits just 2% behind TVNZ, despite the latter’s wider range of shows.
During the first half of this year, the big overseas players Netflix, Prime Video and Disney have seen declines in their audiences, to the benefit of local providers, including the free streaming channels offered by our legacy terrestrial broadcasters.
What’s JustWatch?
If you’re into streaming and have never heard of JustWatch, here’s a quick heads-up. JustWatch is a streaming guide that collates what’s on offer from all the big players, meaning you don’t have to individually access each streaming service to find what you’re after.
For instance, type in the name of a show or movie, and JustWatch will list and provide links to all the platforms on which you can stream, rent or buy the show/movie. You can even filter by best price (including whether it’s available for free), and availability in SD, HD or 4K resolution. For more info on JustWatch, click the link below.
